Spring Break Day 1

It was raining today so we had a rather low-key, chill at home kind of day.

I made banana pancakes for breakfast.  Never made them before.  Actually, they turned out rather delicious and just might be my new favorite breakfast.

The kids enjoyed some time playing their Nintendo DS's and a little bit of the Wii.  But after a while, it was time to turn off the technology.  It was the perfect time to bust out a Christmas present they had been given that we were holding for the right time.

A cardboard pirate ship!  Fortunately, Adam arrived home mid-way through the boat build because I was about ready to chunk the thing out the window.  I had it standing and it did resemble a ship.  So at least the kids could "board" it while waiting on Dad to save the day.  It's not that it is necessarily that difficult to assemble.  It's that I have zero tolerance and patience for figuring things out like this.  The pictures on the instructions didn't quite match the product that we had.  As it turns out, I did not have it put together right.  Adam had it complete in no-time and the kids could not have been more excited!

They went digging through all their costumes, locating all of their pirate attire.  Mr. Bones (Houston), Angry Beard (Hayes), and Lazy Bones (Hawkins) each donned a sword and headed out on a voyage.  They even decided to bring along all of their Toy Story characters, including the three claw-worshiping aliens.  Since they enjoyed it so much, I think the pirate ship will be a permanent fixture in the den (at least until Spring Break is over).

We wrapped the day up with a dinner at Grammy and Papaw's to celebrate Adam's birthday with all the Shepherd family.

Today was a great start to what looks like an excellent week!
