One Little Indian Boy

Today I had the priviledge of attending Hayes' kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast.  Each student was assigned a food item to bring in for the feast.  Instead of going to the cafeteria for lunch, the entire kindergarten shared a feast together in the hall.  Tables completely lined the entire length of the hallway.  Each student had the choice to be a pilgrim or an indian.

Before sitting down for the feast, Ms. Wayland's class performed all the Thanksgiving songs they had learned over the last few weeks for their parents.  One of the songs they sang was one that Hayes had been singing to Holt for the last week or so:

"Five little turkeys are we.
We slept all night in the tree.
When the cook came around,
We couldn't be found.
That's why we are here, you see!"

It was truly wonderful to see my little shy and timid child come out of his shell by singing and laughing with his friends.  Once the singing was over, it was time for the feast!  The entire kindergarten sat together to dine on: cheese cubes, grapes, fruit kabobs, chips, craisins, and Squanto's dessert (dirt pudding).  Before taking the first bite, the children were asked to think of two things they were thankful for and participate in a moment of silence.

Hayes said he was thankful that Holt is finally here and also that he gets to hold Holt.

The principals even stopped by to wish the children a Happy Thanksgiving!
